USFS Transfer of Ownership Fee

Recently I became the owner/permit holder although our cabin is still in the same family. I got hit up for the $1200 transfer fee. The USFS mentions having a trust, with a trustee in place for avoiding the $1200 transfer fee. Can an LLC be formed? I'm obviously confused/overwhelmed....

I don't see a way around the $1,200 transfer fee if you are requesting a new permit be issued to you, due to a change of cabin ownership. An LLC cannot hold a permit per USFS regulations and a cabin trust is still considered a change of ownership. While placing your cabin in a Trust doesn’t avoid the transfer fee, a trust may be useful for other purposes. Click here to see the NFH Trusts and Multi-Ownership page for more information.
