We have received some questions about notices to permit holders limiting cabin use during the pandemic. What can you do if your cabin use was restricted?

The Forest Service informed NFH earlier this year that
most forests intended to allow ongoing access to recreation residence owners
even as other recreation sites were closed.

If this was not the case in your forest, and your cabin access was restricted due to Forest Service or state/local mandates, you may
be able to obtain a temporary fee adjustment proportional to your lost
use.

Please see the attached sample letter describing how to ask for a fee reduction based on "Impaired Use." Use it as a starting template and edit as needed.

We recommend weighing the impact and taking this step only if
your use was significantly impacted.

Thanks so much for this. In California, we were explicitly prohibited from using our cabin due to COVID for many months. Then on September 7th we were again prohibited due to the closure of the National Forests which is now going on 30-days. We even had to apply for a special “permit” to travel to our cabin to close up for the winter. I will give it a shot and see what happens since thus far we were not allowed access to our cabin from March-June and then from September-October.

I applied to the Santa Fe National Forest for fee adjustment due to having restricted access to our cabin for several months, related to the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire and subsequent flooding risk. My request was denied. Has anyone had similar experience and how did you appeal the decision?
