Insurance Coverage - To Rebuild or Not to Rebuild After Fire

The answer is - it depends. Each state governs insurance in their own ways. For instance in CA it just changed. In CA, you can choose from the following after a total loss.

- Actual Cash Value pay out
- Rebuild at the current site
- Rebuild at another location
- Purchase a home of like kind somewhere else.

ACV will always be lower that replacement cost. It really depends on what a cabin owner wants to do, If you want to get into more details and ask for advice, our insurance partners at Assurance Risk Managers (ARM) said they would be happy to answer any questions you have if you want to call them. They're at arm-i.com/National-Forest-Homeowners - contact info for ARM is listed there. Ask for Parker.

Wishing you the best of luck,

Sharon Leach, NFH Executive Director
