Limitation on Group Sizes at FS Cabins?

Hi there,

Thank you for the opportunity to post a question to the community.

We have a situation at our cabin with four neighboring cabins in a row (placed very closely together) with extremely large families. It is common for each of these cabins to have in excess of 25 people staying at them at once. The cabin next to us often has 25 and even upwards to 30 people staying there all summer long.

The impact is so great to the natural forest setting that we have asked the Forest Service if there is any limit on group sizes. They will not give us a solid answer except to say that they don't regulate group sizes and if there is an issue, it would be within the purview of the local health department who should regulate that as on overly high use of their septic system. I called the health department and they said the FS should regulate. So no one wants to deal with the issue.

I am curious if anyone else has run into this problem? I understand that some families are larger than others, but this feels like excessive use that is only getting worse as the years go by (and the families grow larger).

I would appreciate any information/ideas you have on this topic. We have good relations with our neighbors, they are nice people, we're just feeling run over by the numbers of them.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Can you tell me where your cabin is located, on which National Forest and the tract name? I'd like to see what more I can find out on this. That does seem excessive. Having said that, there are certainly plenty of cabins that might have up to 25 people coming at different times. But I've not heard of such large groups all at once and all throughout the season.

Also, are these all family and guests? Is there ever any sense that these are paid groups? That would not be allowed, for certain.

Thank you - Sharon Leach, NFH Executive Director

Hi Sharon, I'd rather not say the Forest and tract name on this public forum. Could you possibly contact me privately to discuss? I believe you can access my contact information, or maybe you could provide yours.

These are not paid groups. These are just extremely large families.

Thank you!
