The WarmLake Users Association in Cascade Idaho has a group water system that was first installed by the CCC camp in the 30's. The system has been added to but the DEQ has deemed the system needs renovated at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We are looking for grants/aid to help in this project. Has anyone out there faced this issue? How were you able to solve the problem?

Thanks

Russ and Teresa Weeks

coachesruss@gmail.com

Hi Russ and Teresa,

We have a water system we overhauled about a decade ago. Not a CCC system, but still pricey. We got proposals, assessed Cabin Owners, spreading the collection over 3 years, and then implemented. At the time, we didn't look into grants, but if we had to do it all over again, we'd look into a Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) grant (https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/boise/workingtogether/advisorycommittees). Also, our state's DEQ offers grants (we've never applied for one), Idaho DEQ might too?

Cheers,
Desiree

I googled Idaho water grants, and there are a few avenues to explore.

One mentioned above is the DEQ, https://www.deq.idaho.gov/water-quality/grants-and-loans/. Also Idaho Commerce has Community Grants. Most of these are intended to promote business development. https://commerce.idaho.gov/communities/community-grants/

You have to poke around to see if anything fits your community. There's an emergency funding source with USDA Idaho: https://www.rd.usda.gov/programs-services/water-environmental-programs/emergency-community-water-assistance-grants/id

Finally, this was an epa program, https://www.epa.gov/dwcapacity/other-loans-and-grants-small-drinking-water-systems so I would keep googling and see if you can find a good fit. There seem be a number of channels to look through.

Wishing you the best,
Sharon Leach, NFH Executive Director
