Melba,

The short answer is yes, you need to obtain permission from the Forest Service to replace your water tank. The approval process should be fairly simple, it may be a simple as an email request and approval. Be sure to retain the approval in writing (email or letter). Because you already have a water tank listed as an improvement on the face of your permit, approval for replacing the same improvement should be much easier than requesting to add a new improvement. Be sure to stress your existing tank is leaking and your request is a simple replacement with a tank in the same location that is more environmentally favorable and slightly less capacity. Requesting a tank of greater capacity or a different location might trigger a more extensive approval process.
