While this has been a growing trend, the methods, processes, and documentation have not been consistently implemented by different Forest Service locations.

Permits issued after 2017 specify a requirement for the permit holder to conduct an annual inspection of the permit area for safety and compliance purposes. The Forest Service created a standard form FS-2700-6b Recreation Residence Self-Inspection Report to be used for this purpose (see pdf below). We anticipate permit holder self-inspections will become a more common and consistent practice by Forest Service staff nationally.
