What is NFH’s position on the reorganization of the Forest Service? To me personally, it doesn’t make any sense. First of all, moving the headquarters to Utah, will lessen the influence our Senators and Representatives can have on decision making. Unless I am mistaken, it appears that the plan is to close the 10 regional offices and open 15 state offices. How is this a cost saving measure? Are there any further plans to consolidate forest offices such as the Willamette National Forest office in Springfield, Oregon?

Thank you for submitting your post. Many of the decisions the agency is making do not seem to add up. As you say, their reorganization into hubs seems to create more physical offices than they have with the regional structure. At the upcoming NFH virtual conference, we will share some thoughts regarding the reorganization.

More importantly, in eight of the sessions we have participation from various people from the Forest Service. They will not necessarily make any statements about the reorg. My point is NFH has a strong relationship with people in the Forest Service from various offices and with various specialties. While we are trying to stay a step ahead of organizational changes that impact the program, we are also focusing on cooperating to the best outcome of the Recreation Residence Program.
